街灯

Kanji:

街灯

ピンクのビニール傘で顔を隠しながら二人で歩いた街

ただ君の肩が濡れない様に…

ソコの椅子にはまだ少し暖かい君がいる

触れてはみたいが泣いてもみたい

飲みかけの牛乳がやけに寂しいテーブルの上

ふかした煙草の吸い殻の数だけ愛しています

電信柱の街灯の下

置き去りにした  ずぶ濡れの傘を拾いにいこう

さえない日々の
さえない空に
さえない男の独り言

English: Note: Again, I rewrote most of the lines from the book’s original English translation, just to make it sound more elegant to native English speakers. I left the last three lines’ adjective translated as “depressed,” even though the meaning is closer to “dull” or “dim,” because I did not want to give the impression that the speaker is mentally deficient. He isn’t, he’s just, well, depressed.

Street lamp

We walked together, hiding our faces behind the pink plastic umbrella,

Just to keep your shoulders from getting wet…

You are sitting in that chair, still slightly warm,

I want to touch you, but I also want to cry.

A partially-consumed milk is on top of the lonely table.

I love you only as much as the number of cigarette butts I’ve smoked.

Under a street lamp’s light,

Abandoned. Let’s go pick up the dripping wet umbrella.

The depressed days spoken of
Under the depressed sky
as the depressed man talks to himself.
